In the meantime I have tried reproducing the issue, and indeed it

TypeError: decoding Unicode is not supported
It looks like a parenthesis is placed at the wrong location...
Good! I also had this error, but it seems you spotted the problem. Don't
fix it though if it (re-)introduces the initial "feature"...
