I really don't know Transifex / translation processes well enough to comment, but it sounds similar to what Christian proposed.

My main point is: If the process is nice for Trac translators but impossibly complicated for releasing Trac, that doesn't help anyone.

If using Transifex exclusively simplifies the release process enough then that's great of course.
