The spam-filter branch needs to be split up into:
 a) extension points needed to implement spam filters as plugins
 b) the actual filtering plugin(s)

We really need to push forward with the work Matt has done in this area ASAP. Especially the extension points need to get merged soon, so that we can experiment with the effectiveness of specific filtering mechanisms on p.e.c.

Is Matt still working on this, or should we take over.
Maybe a hint of what's left to be done would help.

Until that happens, I think we can live with continuing the extra work of cleaning up manually.

Clearly not: look for example at what was the history of TracLinks, this morning 23 02/09/06 05:01:11 anonymous 22 02/09/06 04:18:27 anonymous 21 02/09/06 04:15:42 anonymous 20 02/09/06 04:08:27 anonymous 19 02/09/06 04:04:40 anonymous 18 02/09/06 04:03:34 anonymous 17 01/20/06 07:43:02 cboos

18:23 was spam, of course. I just removed them all, same for some other Wiki pages.
Now imagine someone adding a legitimate change in the mix...
It's quite error prone, I think we should better turn them to read-only
in the meantime (for the shortest period of time possible, of course).
