If that is truly the case, then that would be easy to test: Try to access the RSS XML URL directly with your browser. Also pay attention to any authentication questions it might ask you.

For example, the timeline feed is in /timeline, but Apache doesn't know how to render that because in a "standard" install there is no config to provide web access to that directory.
