About patches in general:

Usually a patch provides a feature, but it has not been integrated
(and potentially might not be integrated as-is).

So it's really up to you: if you'd like the feature, apply the patch
(which is usually unsupported), or wait till the feature is
implemented in some way into the mainstream.

The patch is not a "fix". It's a temporary implementation provided by a user.
