The suggestions made by others have been spot-on. I'd just like to add that I've found the quilt toolset immensely useful in managing patches when I've needed to run a patched Trac. If you need to apply multiple patches, it is probably worth looking in to considering. It allows you to manage a stack of patches, including facilities for updating them to apply cleanly against newer source trees.
