Hello all,

I am capturing a number of tickets, planning to go back and add custom
fields later. But I read a reference in the documentation that made me
worry that this will be wasted effort.

Under 
http://trac.edgewall.org/wiki/TracTicketsCustomFields#ReportsInvolvingCustomFields
it says "If you created this custom ticket field after you have
already created some tickets, they will not have this custom field
defined for that ticket"

Does this mean that the custom field value is just not set for an old
ticket, but I can still go back and set it, or does it not exist for
an old ticket, and I can never set it? (If it's the latter I'd better
define my custom fields now before capturing more tickets!)

(And does it make a difference if I edit trac.ini directly or use
http://trac-hacks.org/wiki/CustomFieldAdminPlugin ?)
