Ubuntu is very python oriented so definetely do not remove python 2.5.
You can install a separate version of python and use that to power trac
instances. I am not sure the exact steps but I have done this and is not
complicated. I would suggest not using apt or synaptic for this, but
download the correct version of python and install manually. This will let
you configure a python environment for use just with trac and will not
affect the system.

Have a careful read first though before you try, because as I mentioned
above Ubuntu relies on python for many things, so you don't want to mess
with that :)
