The first thing I can think of is using LDAP/ActiveDirectory for
authentication.

For Joomla see:
http://joomlacode.org/gf/project/jauthtools/

For Trac see:
http://trac.edgewall.org/wiki/ActiveDirectory

I haven't been able to have users be signed on right away in trac, but when
they click the Login button they can use the same credentials as in Joomla.
Another added benefit is having one userstore instead of two.
