This is bad. You do not know what caused your problem.
If I understand you correctly, your problem is/was with authentication,
not with authorization, correct?
If so, it would be a good idea to provide more details, like:
- what auth backend do you use?
- do you use apache or tracd?
- what does the log tell you (if logging is enabled)?
