On trac 0.11.2.1 I've had good results with
http://trac-hacks.org/wiki/AutocompleteUsersPlugin.
Not tried it with LDAP, and the user is only "autocompleted" for us if
they've filled in their preferences, but I believe it is possible to
load the user info into the trac db directly.
