A work mate found a work around, with a little bit of VB code added to the Excel spreadsheet. Now if one double clicks on a cell with text of the form #number, it will open the default browser on the appropriate ticket''s URL. This is a reasonable work around,but it would be preferable to have standard http://<host>/trac/Ticket/number URLS to work without this extra magic.
