In general, it depends on the distro . RedHat and its derivations are
supported OOTB

For Debian and flavours I know about stdeb and there r more (I cant
remember right now :-/ )

There are other `distutils` extensions for other kinds of packages .

Mercurial 1.3 even for latest Ubuntu ;o)
