Probably a couple of ways to do that.   Don't really think you need a plugin to 
do that.

We utilize our Component field for that.  Then just make some queries based on 
the component.

Other option is to make a ticket type for Hardware

It should not matter if they share the same one up numbering scheme, as long as 
you can organize the tickets through the queries to distinguish the departments.

Also am thinking could add a field called Department with those two choices and 
use that.  But component already exists and could be used for this purpose

Is it possible to use the ticketing system of track with
'departments'?
For example: I may have two departments: 'software' and 'hardware' and
I would like to enable the end-user to choose between these two
departments.
