You're sure that you are getting logged in from Trac's perspective? When you are using the Apache authentication you may be getting prompted for credentials, but Trac is not "seeing" that. You'd have to tell us more about how you have Trac tied in with Apache.
If you turn your Trac logging up to debug and then try logging in, what does it show?
