AFAICT this has some things in common with Apache™ Bloodhound free
search text [1]_ [2]_ solution , currently under development . Maybe
you might want to take a look at it because in there
1. some important additions to Trac core have been added to ensure
better index consistentcy including a brand new
IResourceChangeListener interface providing a generic platform
to implement event-driven plugins related to resources .
2. it is designed to be a pluggable architecture , so you'd be able
to add your custom indexing solution .
3. you'll have a modern search UI ootb so your development efforts
might be focused on indexing algorithms and related stuff .
... I may be wrong though ...
btw , next Bloodhound release is coming soon
