Do you have more detail on what is wrong with the AccountManager plugin? Errors? I am currently using it on 1.2 without issue. I have had to make some adjustments to a few plugins on my own where they were using the older API method for connecting to the DB but it appears this was already fixed in AccountManager at the end of last year.

I also always missed a core feature for new users to register, that was supposed to be possible with AccountManagerPlugin but never worked for me. basic_auth should be the most simple authentication, but there is no way even for the Administrator account, to see the registered users or delete a user. But for now, creating new accounts only by the administrator using plain htpasswd on the terminal, how can users change their password?
