On a redhat clone I built my subversion by linking to apr-0.9.7 and apr-util-0.9.7 and the python bindings work just fine. The INSTALL doc that comes with subversion 1.2.3 suggests linking to APR 0.9.5 versions ... so maybe it's worth rebuilding? :)
