More than a year ago I spoke with Jonas at Edgewall about ways
that we could make Trac more accessible by making it effortless to set up and
administer. Finally, we got around to implementing this idea, and I think
the results are good. We need to test it and we want to support the community.
So, please sign up and use the system. Register here: The main benefit for a software developer is free and
effortless Trac and Subversion hosting. Just create a new space, set the
permissions for the space, go to the Admin tab, and click the button next to “Add
to this Space” - Trac. You will immediately get a new Trac tab with
links to your new Trac instance and Subversion repository. User accounts
and permissions are drawn from your Breakout team, so no further user
administration is necessary. You will see an Admin tab in Trac linking to
the normal module for Web administration of the ticket system. Every space actually gets its own private Trac instance and
repository. We integrated the permissions with Breakout through a custom
apache module. You can see how we are using this tool ourselves by searching
for the Breakout Software Development space. Trac has made a great
contribution to our development process. I thank everyone that worked on,
and I hope to give back an improved end-user experience. This is an early first release of Breakout – Social software
to get things done. The graphic design is not complete, and it has some
problems, particularly in the flows (discussion/feeds/issues) feature.
However, the Trac/Subversion tool, the team management, and the permissions are
all ready to use. So, please use it and send me your comments. Andy Singleton Assembla, http://beta.assembla.com Email: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Phone: 1.781.400.1274 |
