Apache doesn't support colons in the Realm either.  The htdigest utility
doesn't warn about this, but you won't be able to authenticate on Apache
using that htdigest file.  Allowing colons would be ambiguous since it's
not clear if you want:
user = "user"
realm = "localhost:8000"
Or:
user = "user:localhost"
realm = "8000"

So, to be consistent with Apache I don't think colons should be allowed
in the digest realm.
