As for attempting to merge the patch and the new plugin, I for one would rather see a plugin implementation -- it's just easier to manage and upgrade IMHO.

I did a bit of a double-take when I saw this, because we're using
the `Scrum Burndown Plugin`_ and it provides time tracking and
estimation fields.
I know next to nothing about either of them, but it's probably
worth seeing if there's opportunity to reduce code duplication.
