This seems to work now, even if the address is the same I see the real name. I actually had the same problem after updating to Thunderbird 5 and it turned out that if you save "repo...@bugs.python.org" in the address book as e.g. "Python-bugs", then "Python-bugs" will be displayed instead of the real name.
