A similar stuff is available for Apple Spotlight. See this image [1] in
Italian language.
The text under the blue search bar is: "Spotlight helps you to fast
search in your computer. Spotlight will be available when the computer
contents will be indexed"
The texts near the progress bar are "Indexing: Alex's Powerbook" (above)
and "Evaluating needed time" (below)
BTW: wait to search until all files will be indexed is really a great
feature.
If we want this feature in GNOME, we need:
* a program to add to users' sessions (such as gnome-cups-icon in
Edgy to show printer activity)
* some icons to install ad named icons under
$prefix/share/icons/hicolor to make them themable
("tracker-status-sleep", "tracker-status-extracting",
"tracker-status-flushing")
* re-read HIG about status icons (I'm not sure
"tracker-status-sleep" is a good idea for HIG.
* localization support :-)

Try to ask at next Tango Friday (11/10) :-)
Send an email to Andreas Nilsson to include tracker in the list of
applications that need an icon
