I am interested in the possibility of deploying it on machines which contain archival material which we want to index. When I use the term deploy I don't mean install. I just want to be able to run it from for example a remote machine (which can see the data) or USB stick. My development machine runs openSuse 10.2 (KDE )on which I've successfully compiled tracker 0.6.1 (after much devel library loading). My archival machines both run Suse 10.0 at present and the archival data sits on NAS disks. I don't want to compile tracker on the archival machines as it requires development libraries etc which would basically pollute the machines and make the long-term preservation activity even more complex. It is not yet clear to me what runtime libraries tracker requires to be present to execute. I've set the prefix to /opt/tracker but I'd already installed all the libraries to get it to compile. I must admit I'm not very familiar with the GNU build environment and the Gnome/KDE issues which impact tools such as tracker and strigi. Thanks in advance for any advice. [Renhart Gittens] 1. Preferably we would run the search actually on the archival machine as they are meant to be standalone for security reasons. 2. However the searches could be run from a remote machine as I am able to run virtual machines. Thanks again Renhart
