have been trying to find a desktop search tool that can index web archive
files, and the only solution I can find is google desktop for mht files.
Now I know that Firefox has its own format (MAFF) that is a archived file
of the contents.
Can Tracker not just add support for this archived
format?
I have tried to add support for the MHT format with no joy.

You say you tried to add an extractor for the MAFF format with no joy,
where did you get stuck? The people hanging on IRC on #tracker (GimpNet
server) will surely be happy with whatever problem you encountered.
