However with a bit of hacking compilation is possible. The problem is that the Ubuntu folks don't see Tracker as a first class citizen (it is in 'universe' rather than 'main') and so there is little impetus for a developer to sort it out. At the tracker end, the same resource problem applies as Martyn says. So it needs someone in the middle to invest time and be prepared to maintain it.
