You're checking for characters in a database? I mean one query per one character? Perhaps if you shared the query we could help more? :)
After i execute the query ...i iterate a bit over cursor to see if there are any results. This part of executing 160 queries and iterating over cursor takes about 15 secs.
I suspect your query isn't quite right, we can help with that if you share it here. Alternatively, you can contact me privately if you're concerned with making the query public - but if you do you increase the chances of response and improvement suggestions ;)
Any ideas on how to tune this?
Without the query, it's not possible, but I have a good idea about what you might be looking for if you have more details...
