Yes, you can home-brew your own cable. I've got a couple of the
cables that I mentioned, but I also have a few of the mini-B cables
and was going to try doing my own level converter one of these days.
I think you basically just have to drop the voltage with some diodes
and add the 8.2 K resistor to tell the Nuvi to go into FMI mode.
I have three Nuvi 350s, so one of these days I will get brave enough
to disect one of them and see if I can do a "one cable" connection to
the back connector. Hopefully the most difficult part will be opening
up the Nuvi, but a magnifying glass will help.

I've updated mine to ver 6.00 with no apparaent problems. You
might want to see if anyone has updated to 6.2 before you do it!
