Hilltopping has been discussed a lot on the HamHUD group and others as well.

If you can figure out how to deduce the crest of a hill buried in the
vertical variablility noise, have at it.

Your idea has merit, there's just no solution yet. Write the script
and get it working well, and others will look at it. If it works good,
it might get added to the SmartBeacon routine.
