As everyone has said, it's not too hard to get going with subversion and play with the trunk, but like Luke, I would certainly recommend keeping your production Tracks and your 'sandpit' Tracks (we have pits not boxes in Britain :-) separate, at least to start with until you've got the hang of things. And remember to back up your database very frequently in case something happens.
