The patch seems like a solid start- layout isn't terrific but it certainly unclutters things. FWIW, I think the star indicates a failure of GTD-ish thinking- everything in the list should be important (aka 'starred'); if it isn't important, it should be deferred/tickler or deleted- *somehow* out of view. If I had to pick one button to show, I'd choose defer one day- which seems much more GTD-ish- than 'star'.
