Yes, that works and can be consumed by the Lisp reader.

I would hope that this will work.  Inode just needs to be an
identifier as far as I can see.  Making it a string would probably
work as well.

Anyway, I've patched my tramp.el to use %i.0 and will let you know if
anything goes wrong.
