I did; this is what's in *Messages*:

Tramp: Opening connection for bleek.nikhef.nl using ssh...
Warning: defvar ignored because socks-noproxy is let-bound

I tried also with emacs23 and this works, but, as you mentioned, is extremely
slow.

Something is wrong with my emacs24 I guess...
