Thanks. So it isn't a native Tramp problem. IIUC, all three bugs you have reported require interaction with another package (ido, exec-path-from-shell, crux). I don't use any of them, and I know only ido which is part of Emacs. I guess you might be better served if you write either an Emacs bug report (for ido), or if you contact the package's authors. You have said that this is a regression from Emacs 26. My crystal ball suspices that these packages use undocumented Tramp functionality which has been changed. Who knows. Best regards, Michael.
