Subject: Choosing Implementation Guides White Paper

Aloha!

Earlier today, during the WEDI SNIP Business Issues weekly conference call, we discussed the need for a WEDI SNIP White Paper for providing industry guidance regarding what HIPAA X12N 837 Implementation Guide (IG) should be used for services for which this has not been consistent within the industry.  I have reviewed my discussion notes, some related WEDI SNIP Business Issues Listserv discussions, and some related X12N/TG2/WG2 (837) Listserv discussions of this issue in order to compile the lists below.

The "Potential Topics" list includes any items that were brought forth in any of those discussions.

The "Potential Participants" list shows those who explicitly stated that they want to participate on one of the listservs.

The "Other Parties" list includes anyone else who participated in the listserv discussions, but who didn't explicitly volunteer to help with the white paper.

I am CCing this note to both the WEDI SNIP Transactions Workgroup listserv and the X12N/TG2/WG2 (837) listserv as a way of soliciting additional topics and more white paper volunteers.  As such, I am agreeable to compiling a much longer list of volunteers in another week or so.  Please send your messages to me directly if you do not have access to either of these listservs.

Happily, the previous discussions on these listservs have provided us with a good starting point.  I could provide two preliminary work products, if the participants think that they would be helpful:

(1)  I could create a summary of the two discussion threads mentioned above.  This would be a simple cut and paste of each unique contribution, organized by date and time within the discussion threads.

(2)  I could create a summary of the following for use in an appendix, and to help keep us on the same page of our HIPAA Playbook:

(2) (a)  Related provisions of the law.
(2) (b)  Related provisions of the regulatory text.
(2) (c)  Related provisions of the regulatory preamble.
(2) (d)  Related provisions of the HHS FAQs and Q&As.

PS:  When scheduling conference calls, remember that I'm either five or six hours behind East Coast Time, depending on the time of year.  But I have weird sleeping habits too, so you can't necessarily avoid me just by scheduling calls at a bad time (;->).
