The current Final Rule requires use of HCPCS for medical supplies, observed
are hot debates on this area from NCPDP who desires to use UPC or NDC within
the NCPDP transaction.

Assuming the NPRM due out on NDC states you can use HCPCS or NDC for drugs
you would have a choice on your IV components, the loop mentioned below was
built with Home Infusion in mind.

Assuming you are a commericial payor, I suggest you contact HIAA (Health
Insurance Ass. of America), they are working on some code requests.

Companies that need new HCPCS can go to
www.hcfa.gov\medicare\hcpcs.htm and find the request form for new codes.
Please also reference this site for newly assigned codes by CMS available
for use but not in the annual update.

Keep in mind all codes are available for your use (unless you are Medicare
then you cannot use codes beginning with S or T), personally I would avoid C
codes as by definition they go away quickly.

Steven,
look at the new 2410 loop added to the 837 by the "addenda" to provide
detail on drugs.
