I think that's another good question for this group: Is Soundex type matching HIPAA compliant? The basis for this question is this: If I inquire about Sherman Munster and information about Herman Munster is returned, you are returning protected health information about someone other than who was inquired upon. It is my position that Soundex type matching is NOT a HIPAA compliant solution. There are error codes that can be returned to the Information Receiver to handle these types of failures.
