I'm looking for some clarification re: the use of Member Level Dates (Loop 2000, DTP) vs. Health Coverage Dates (Loop 2300, DTP) in the 834 (004010X095).
There is an expanded definition for code value 356 in DTP01 (Loop 2000) which I interpret to mean that this segment should not be used to convey the begin date for which a member is eligible to begin receiving health care benefits from the health plan receiving this enrollment, but that it should be used to convey the initial date that a member became eligible to receive healthcare benefits from any health plan. It further explains that DTP in position 270 should convey the actual date of eligibility. This explanation of use appears to be contradicted by the segment note #2 which states ...."the only date that identifies the start of coverage for an initial enrollment is 356".... If anyone can clarify the intended use of this segment and how it is used in conjunction with Health Coverage Dates, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
