Shellie;
The implementation guide for the 837 Professional states
"This is the implementation guide for the ANSI ASC X12N 837 Health Care
Claims
(837) transaction for professional claims and/or encounters. This
implementation
guide provides standardized data requirements and content for all users of
the
837."
BHT06 is used for "RP Reporting Use RP when the entire ST-SE envelope
contains
encounters.
Use RP when the transaction is being sent to an
entity (usually not a payer or a normal providerpayer
transmission intermediary) for purposes other
than adjudication of a claim. Such an entity could be
a state health data agency which is using the 837 for
health data reporting purposes."

I guess this is just regurgitating information, but I think it may answer
your question from the IG point of view.

Subject: Encounter Data

Is the 837 transaction set required for encounter data? I cannot find
anywhere in the regs that indicate it is not. If you have the site in the
regs, please let me know.
