Dana,

The ISA/IEA interchange can also be only a logical file. There is no
requirement under the X12 standards that each interchange be in a separate
physical file. Thus, the physical file can contain multiple interchanges.
This is certainly allowable under the X12 rules.

Subject: Multiple ISA/IEA segments

Can anyone tell me if it is within the ASC X12 standard to be allowed to
send multiple ISA/IEA segments? For example, within one file can there be a
sequence of segments
ISA
GS
ST
SE
GE
IEA
ISA
GS
ST
SE
GE
IEA.
If this is a valid sequence, is an entity considered to be non-compliant if
they are unable to accept a multiple ISA/IEA enveloping structure? Also, I
would be interested to know if other payers can accept a multiple ISA/IEA
enveloping structure and how they are dealing with this.

Any information is appreciated.

Thanks,
Dana Grant
