This is what I am working on and not yet final. I use an EDI parsing module (API) that uses SEF files. These SEF files destill the IGs into electronically readable formats. The incoming files are analyzed against the IGs and any errors on level 1,2 and 4 are detected and the API produces an error message. I display the error message on screen when the incoming file is manually processed, and/or email it to someone within the company when the EDI portal is running in auto mode. I don't have an automatic acceptance/rejection logic based on the error messages. By this error message I decide if I want to accept the interchange. My feeling is that I shouldn't accept transactions that violate those "low" level of conformance. I decide to reject the whole file. I don't have the time and patience to cut and paste. Whatever goes through this filter can enter my system and if a claim for example is rejectionable, I have the claim status reports and the 277 to act further. Recently I received a lot of atrocious EDI files from customers and clients. Carriage Returns/Linefeeds within element data, ISA segments that are not 107 bytes long, jumbled loops, phone numbers in the N3-02 segment and so on. In-line checking of transactions is vital to any EDI traffic.

At what level will payers be rejecting bad data? 1.a.) Will you be rejecting individual claims, individual transactions (ST-SE's) or entire interchanges for WEDI levels 1, 2 and 4? 2.) What means will you be using to report these errors (rejections)? 3.) Will you be "cutting" data? Thanks. Jonathan Fox eCommerce Specialist Independent Health CONFIDENTIALITY NOTICE.
