it is your responsibility to be secure, by the way, the first step to becoming HIPAA 
compliant is new Policies and Procedures, anyway, dealing with patient info 
electronically by any practice requires you to be secure no matter whose network you 
are on.  it may be a group effort but things must be done to ensure a secure 
transmission (firewalls, encryption, VPN, etc...)  not sure of your situation, so not 
sure who pays for or is responsible for the planning behind this...you are  running 
behind though, you should start educating yourself now, and work on a plan of attack.  
hipaa introduces 80,000 violations with penalties up to $25,000 per violation...they 
don't mess around.  let me know if I can help, it depends on where you are 
geographically, im in Florida.  there is a lot to know, this is a project not a pizza 
order.  I just want you to understand the severity behind it.  HIPAA is being called
