you have until October 16, 2003 for the electronic compliance, no way around it. you can file your extension to give you the extra year (from 10/02 to 10/03) but come October 2003, you must be compliant. the first step is HIPAA policies and procedures. these are a pain, however we are conducting compilation of such policies and procedures (if you are interested let me know, we usually teach a small class and have every staff member verify they have been notified of all laws, however maybe the implementation could be done by you if your office is small) By the way, the culture part of HIPAA (policies and procedures) is to be complete by April 14, 2003. aj
