Hi,
I'm very keen to get the fine AV offset adjustment 100% correct in transcode
as it's the only small problem I've been having. On my LCD monitor the fine
AV offset being wrong is not as noticeable as on my main display. I'd really
like to be in a position to do transcode as a 1 click operation and rely on
not tweaking any settings. As far as video goes I'm very happy, I have a 1
click and it seems to work with PAL and NTSC. The problem is the AV sync is
only correct some of the time and depending on what I'm encoding from and
to. It seems to work best if I go from a PAL DVD to an XVID with an MP3
soundtrack I use the M3 option but I've reversed the offset from a +ve to
-ve bias, this seems to work very well for me. I've done alot of testing and
tweaking and not come up with anything 100% reliable although I guess I
could manually adjust the setting every time, to me personally this would
defeat the object of the exercise.
My comparisons / base line is using the original DVD under xine vs the
transcoded version (also under xine). I'm working with DVDs such as Six Feet
Under, the X-Files, Arrested Development, Star Trek TNG, Wonderfalls etc.
Six Feet Under PAL DVD encoded with AC3 - seems to be some problems with
fine AV offset
X-Files PAL DVD encoded with MP3 - using M3 and -ve offset seems fine to me
Arrested Development PAL DVD encoded with MP3 - using M3 with -ve offset
seems fine to me
Start Trek TNG PAL DVD encoded with AC3 - not sure - probably OK? very close
anyway
Wonderfalls NTSC DVD encoded with AC3 and PSU core, deffinetly off at least
120ms. No AV sync drift using PSU core, significant AV sync drift without.
Version Nos
transcode v1.0.2 (C) 2001-2003 Thomas Oestreich, 2003-2004 T. Bitterberg
I run gentoo linux the version is linux-2.6.16-suspend2-r5
I'm happy to experiment and do a bit of hacking to get this working and post
my results back but I really need some help from some of the developers. I
know this is probably the icing on the cake but isnt that what we all really
want!
Regards
Will Wiseman
