[transcode-devel] silence detection

Friend is ripping vinyl albums but ending up with one big file per side.   now 
realizes that it would be nice to have one file per song.

Is there a way to split up a compressed format (mp3 probably) on silence 
(mostly, given a needle in a groove is going to generate something) without 
having to re-encode ?
