Transcode is currently worthless without Mplayer. What is the
point of crippling it further, and alienating the user community?
Transcode has much better geometry management and framerate
conversion than mencoder, which is enough for it to be able to
hold a significant user community. Instead of competing with
mencoder, consider how Transcode could gather community by
leveraging mplayer's probing and adding these features:

Audio treble/bass adjustment (via sox?)

Gamma, contrast, brightness, and color correction.

Better documentation of the hugely important ffmpeg.cfg
interface... If people realised what they could do with
the lavc 'nr' denoiser and the cmp and subcmp options
they would dance in the street. I guess I could start on
that one in the wiki ;^)
