I now have the same question. There was no answer back then. That thread turned 
into a discussion about
whether you should do it or not. I think that some video I have is 16-235 and 
it looks washed out on a
computer screen. Is there a filter to convert either the source our output 
video to 0-255? Or does anyone
know of a utility that will tell me what the black / white levels are in the 
source video file?
