Hi,

[please follow up this post instead of OP] 

I have this 704x360 @ 16:9 video (noted as P * Q @ r1, 
cropped from 720x480 @ 16:9 source using -j 64,8,56,8), 
and want to transcode it to 640xx480 @ 4:3 mpeg (noted as X * Y @ r2). 

How could I manually calculate the resizing parameters for transcode? 

Forget to mention, I've done my homework...
According to the transcode manual, original picture P * Q @ r1
should be zoomed to intermediate M * N @ r1, then pad back to 
X * Y @ r2. I've attempted many time trying to understand it, 
but the more I looked into it, the more chaos I seemed to get.
