looks like that writes raw video (no compression at all, kinda like a .bmp) but
there is no header, so no description of size or colorspace, which we kinda need
to know.  I got something:

transcode -i v4l.out -x raw,null  -g 640x480 -o test -y ffmpeg,null -F 
mpeg1video

however, I am going to ask again:

Why not transcode right from the /dev/video device?  I don't see the point in
creating the v4l.out file.

I am not sure how to get transcode to work with vivi, but I have gotten it to
work with other v4l2 devices.
