>>Try what exactly on other players? The AVIs all played. >>VLC plays the selected track (last of 30 on a "100%" full disc)
My answer below i.e. try another player like Mplayer, Mplayer2, XBMC, Miro, ..................... instead of VLC. Like this you could know it it is a problem of software, of hardware (i.e about your DVD or your Pionneer). It is the first thing to do on computer system , to know that. I'am a geek i.e. I bring me (and for others) and repair computers, more I cracked one NAS (slug) and one Modem (WRT-54GL) with a Linux. >>I started by making a DVD of a Jimmy Fallon segment recorded on my Pioneer DVR. Then I tried dvd::rip with the intent to produce a mpeg file of that segment. Dvdrip transcoding passed the 70% mark, then exited with the subject error message. The complete log is at: http://fm.no-ip.com/Tmp/dvdriplogfile-lulu01.txt The tail of the log includes: Output: INFO: [mplex] mplex version 2.0.0 (2.2.7 $Date: 2010/03/13 13:05:07 $) **ERROR: [mplex] Unable to open file /isos/work/lulu/avi/030/lulu-0 30.m2v for reading. I haven't found any FAQ that addresses this kind of error message. Did I do something wrong? What now? Can someone recommend a better Linux app to rip a mpeg from a DVD? I resume what I understood about your problem here. You have created a DVD on your player DVD Pionneer and you'd like to import on your hard drive in the mpeg format using DVD::rip. But you have an error with it and only 70% of this one is imported instead of 100%. You said too that this DVD can be play by VLC totally. And you want to get some help about that. And that's what I'm trying to do. After, I am not a developer of Transcode, just a simple user who try to help you like I can. And I can do some translations errors (and sorry for my bad English even I am in ...............progress.) >>I have no idea what "access to this option" refers to. On -RW, finalization can be undone, but not on -R. The only unfinalized DVR-created DVD I ever tried to use in Linux was DVD+RW, which neither my Funai nor my Pioneer will attempt to finalize, and which didn't allow me to do anything I hoped to do with it. All those I've used since attempting to use dvd::rip were finalized. >>I really have no idea what you're attempting to communicate here. You have this option in a menu which is only available when a DVD is inserted in the player. Normally, she is only available for DVD-/+R but I know that some marks have done that too for some cheap players. Perhaps, it is your case. By experience, it was impossible to rip/play correctly a DVD no finalized. >>I tried using a Magnavox (H2160MW9A; made by Funai) DVR instead of a Pioneer (460), and used a DVD-R instead, and different music video recordings as source. I get the same error message and failure attempting to use a mpeg container instead of avi. On first two AVI attempts, a playable AVI was produced, but the result is only a worthless fraction of the source, possibly the top half or so, at about 1/4 resolution of the original. After the two I quit trying with the Funai DVD-R. It is strange that AVI failled too. >>Tcprobe applied to what? Source DVD? Source VOB? Output of the failed mpeg attempts? Tcprobe is a tool of Transcode which give you informations on files/DVD/repertories/ like codecs/formats/bitrates/size.... It is about the Source DVD and why not the failed mpeg attempts. More you 'll give informations on a forum/mailing list on your problem, more you could have/find answers to resolve your problem. I was thinking at your first post about to your ask to recomand you some better applications on Linux. DVD::rip is certainly the most powerful but she is complex (like Transcode) but that's not the only one. You could try Shrinkta <http://shrinkta.sourceforge.net/>, OGmrip<http://ogmrip.sourceforge.net/en/index.html> , Backlite <http://opendesktop.org/content/show.php/backlite?content=100235>(done by the same author, it is K9copy without the Kdelibs), Dvdbacku <http://dvdbackup.sourceforge.net/>p and even DvdShrink (using Wine or a GUI of this one like Qwine <http://q4wine.brezblock.org.ua/> or Vineyard <https://launchpad.net/vineyard/>. Be careful the preview doesn't work well. All this applications rip and can create mpeg files. If you have always some problems with this applications, the problems come from your recording. Hopes this helps you. 2012/3/18 Felix Miata <mrma...@earthlink.net> > On 2012/03/17 20:41 (GMT+0100) eolin...@gmail.com composed: > > > VLC plays the selected track (last of 30 on a "100%" full disc) all the >>>> >>> way through without exception, a -RW disc, which proves to me I didn't >> forget to finalize it. >> > > Have you try on some others players ?
